GPC Visa – the proven solution for UK Government procurement

These are turbulent times for the Government and public sector finances. The challenging political and economic environment has placed cost-savings and efficiency at the heart of all policy, and procurement will form a fundamental part of the new approach.

GPC Visa is a proven and established solution that has been delivering benefits to the UK public sector for more than a decade. In 2009 alone, GPC Visa generated annual efficiency savings of £184 million, bringing the total cumulative savings to £842 million since it was first launched in 1997.

Visa Europe has published the following documents which provide further information about GPC Visa and how it can bring real cost and efficiency savings to your organisation:

GPC Visa can meet government’s 10-day payment pledge

At Prime Minister's Questions on 8 October 2008, the Chancellor announced that all payments by central government to SME suppliers should be made within 10 days, and pledged that the Government will cover the cost of doing this. GPC Visa payments are usually made within four working days. Payments made this swiftly would help save many UK SMEs by improving cash flow and in doing so could revitalise the wider economy.

The links below contain information on the Government's 10-day payment pledge and the research that Visa Europe has commissioned.

NEW 2008 GPC Annual Report - 11 years of uninterrupted growth

The latest annual report for the Government Procurement Card (GPC Visa) highlights the key achievements of the programme throughout 2008 and exceptional growth realised over the last 11 years across UK public sector. GPC Visa generated efficiency savings of £165m in 2008 alone, bringing the total savings delivered to public sector organisation to £674m since the programme was first introduced in 1997.
